A message from The First Weekend Club:
YOU DON’T LIKE THE TRUTH: 4 Days Inside Guantánamo is playing at Vancity Theater on January 14th and 18th 2011.
“…a provocative and moving story that reaches into the dark hole of our consciousness,” IDFA Jury.
You Don’t Like the Truth is a searing documentary which exposes, for the first time, declassified videotapes of the interrogation between Canadian agents and child detainee, Omar Khadr, the last Western prisoner of the infamous Guantánamo Bay jail. We see the videotapes through the eyes of a diverse selection of people involved in the case, including his lawyers, a journalist, a former US soldier, his cellmates and even his mother.
Made by veteran documentarians Luc Côté and Patricio Henríquez, the film doesn’t answer any of the tough moral questions about the Omar Khadr case, but puts those questions into the hands of the audience. Viewers are left to examine their own role in the story.
You Don’t Like the Truth has a limited release playing on January 14th and January 18th in Vancouver at the Vancity Theatre. A simultaneous DVD release allows you to watch it wherever you are in Canada and join the First Weekend Club’s DVD Club as we discuss this essential film. We’d love to hear your thoughts. Did you follow the case? Did you feel Khadr was innocent or guilty? Was his treatment fair or was it a human rights travesty? Was he a child soldier or a terrorist?
