DOC BC, in collaboration with the NFB and Cineworks, is thrilled to present RiP: A Remix Manifesto (2008; 86 min) as their second DocTalk event!
In this film, filmmaker Brett Gaylor and mashup artist Girl Talk explore copyright and content creation in the digital age. In the process, they dissect the media landscape of the 21st century and shatter the wall between users and producers. Creative Commons founder, Lawrence Lessig, Brazil’s Minister of Culture, Gilberto Gil, and pop culture critic Cory Doctorow also come along for the ride. The movie’s accolades include Special Selection, SXSW (2009); Special Jury Price, Festival Nouveau Cinema Montreal; and Special Jury Prize at both Whistler Film Festival and International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam.
Taking place in conjunction with the Festival of (In)appropriation, this special edition of Doc Talk addresses the effects of networked culture on media production practices and attitudes to authorship.
DocTalk is a monthly screening and discussion of feature documentary, presented by DOC BC in collaboration with Cineworks, exploring the documentary form through a diverse selection of approaches by International filmmakers.
