Didn’t get your documentary into Hot Docs this year or any past years? Rejoice and apply to Cod Host!
Submission Deadline: April 8, 2011.
About Cod Host
The first Salon des Refusés was held in France back in 1863. Works which failed to satisfy the accepted definition of art at that time, were deemed dangerously subversive by the cultural elite and excluded from art exhibits.
Eventually, rejected artists persuaded Napoleon III to set up the Salon des Refusés, providing them with an opportunity to show their work. These rejected artists, including Renoir, Monet and Manet, would eventually become known as the Impressionists.
In celebration of the original Salon, Cod Host provides a venue for documentary filmmakers rejected by Hot Docs to screen their work.
There is no official selection of work screened at Cod Host. Instead, Cod Host is ‘programmed’ by randomly drawing submitted Hot Docs rejection e-mails from a lottery. The pile of e-mails drawn at the end of the day determines the works to be screened at the Cod Host.
How do I Apply?
Step 1: Get rejected by Hot Docs.
Step 2: E-mail your rejection letter from Hot Docs, along with a completed Cod Host application form, to codhostsalon(at)yahoo(dot)ca.
Step 3: Hope your documentary is randomly selected to screen at Cod Host the night of April 28, 2011 in downtown Toronto, Canada.
